Star Flower Crochet Pattern

Star Flower is one of my beginner crochet patterns. This flat (or one-tier) crochet flower is simple and easy, the best project for a newbie. You will be proud of yourself and you can use the flower as a hairpin or a headband (attach it to the clip with 2-3 drops of a hot glue) or as an applique. You can make 5 or 7 petals instead of 6 and you can make the it in solid color or in 2 different colors for the center and petals. I included pictures of every step of the process so the pattern is more like a crochet tutorial - you can even learn something new :)

Recommended yarn: medium weight or worsted weight (weight category #4). I used Red Heart Super Saver.

Recommended crochet hook: I9/5.5 mm or J10/6.00 mm

Stitches and abbreviations used: CH - chain, SC - single crochet, DC - double crochet, slip stitch.

The approximate size of the finished Star Flower is 3 in (7.5 cm) if you use recommended yarn and recommended crochet hook. You can change the size using the smaller crochet hook.

Step 1. CH 3

Step 2. Join in a ring with a slip stitch

Step 3. SC 6 in the ring, slip stitch.

The crochet Star Flower pattern is for 6 petals but you can make 5 or 7 petals: just make 5 or 7 SC stitches in the center of the flower instead of 6.

If you are making the star flower in 2 different colors, attach the yarn for the petals.

Step 1. CH 4 (make a chain of 4 stitches).

Step 2. Make a slip stitch in the 2nd stitch from the hook.

Step 3. Make a DC (Double Crochet) in the same stitch of the center of the flower as the base of the CH 3). Do not finish this DC, leave 2 loops on the hook.

Step 4. Make another DC (double crochet stitch) in the same place and do not finish it,( i.e. draw the yarn through 2 loops only once) - now you have 3 loops on your crochet hook

Step 5. Repeat Step 4 one more time: make a DC in the same stitch and do not finish it(draw the yarn through 2 loops only once) and now you have 4 loops on your hook.

Step 6. Yarn over the crochet hook and draw the yarn through all 4 loops you have on your hook.

Step 7. Make a slip stitch in the next stitch of the center of the flower.

Repeat Steps 1-7 one more time for the second petal.

Make 4 more petals and the Star Flower is ready! :)
