Seaweed and fish appliques are very easy to make even for beginners - here is a free crochet pattern with a pictures of every step! Here are applique crochet patterns for a Goldfish, Angelfish and Seaweed. The crochet appliques look gorgeous and can be used for baby blankets, afghans, baby hats, bags and clothes. You can also make a panno with it - just glue the appliques to the canvas or paper and frame it to decorate a nursery or a child's room! Have fun making a lot of crochet appliques in many colors!

Recommended weight yarn: Medium to worsted weight (weight category #4) I used Red Heart Super Saver . Recommended crochet hook size: I 9 (5.5 mm) to J 10 (6.00 mm) Abbreviations and stitches used: CH - chain, SC - single crochet, DC - double crochet, TC - treble crochet.

Crochet seaweed and fish appliques approximate sizes if you use recommended weight yarn and crochet hook:
Angelfish: 2 1/2 in by 3 in (6.5 cm by 7.5 cm)
Goldfish: 2 1/2 in by 2 1/2 in (6.5 cm by 6.5 cm) without the tail
Seaweed: stems are 5 in (13 cm) long and the leaves are 3 in (7.5 cm) by 1 in (2.5 cm) - but you can easily adjust the size to your needs.
GOLDFISH FREE CROCHET APPLIQUE PATTERN

CH 3, join in a ring with a slip stitch.
|
Row #1: SC 6 in the ring.
|
|
|
Row #2: 2 SC in each stitch, total will be 12 stitches. Row #3: [SC, 2 SC] repeat [ ] 6 times around the row, total will be 18 stitches.

The tail: CH 4
|
|
|
DC in the next stitch, but do not finish it: draw the yarn through 2 loops only once and leave 2 loops on the hook.
|
SC in the next stitch, do not finish it and leave all 3 loops on the hook.
|
|
|
Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops at once. Cut off the orange yarn and weave in the end.
|
Attach the yellow yarn to the tail as shown.
|
|
|
CH 13 with yellow yarn.
|
Make a slip stitch in the top of the orange tail.
|
|
|
CH 11, and make a slip stitch in the same place where the previous slip stitch was done.
|
CH 9, slip stitch in the same place .
|

|
The tail of the goldfish is ready! :)

The fin: Attach the yellow yarn to the back, CH 4.

DC in the next stitch of the back.

SC in the next stitch of the back, slip stitch.

Eye: white yarn: CH 3 and join in a ring with a slip stitch Black yarn: make a simple knot.

Insert the black knot in the white ring and sew the eye on the fish applique.

ANGELFISH FREE CROCHET APPLIQUE PATTERN

Make a circle (Rows 1-3 as for the Goldfish crochet applique pattern) Make a slip stitch at the end of Row #3.

The bottom fin: CH 4, slip stitch in the 2nd from the hook stitch (to make it pointed).

DC in the next stitch.
|
SC in the next following stitch, slip stitch.
|
|
|
The tail: CH 5, slip stitchin the next stitch,
|
CH 5
|
|
|
Slip stitch in the same stitch - the tail is ready!
|
The top fin: 2 slip stitches, SC, DC.
|
|
|
CH 1 and slip stitch on the top of the DC to make the fin pointed
|
CH 4, slip stitch in the next stitch of the body.

|
The nose: make 4 slip stitches along the body, CH 1
|
Slip stitch in the same stitch. The nose is ready!

The eye: black yarn - make a knot and tie it to the fish applique or sew it on. (as for the Goldfish).
SEAWEED FREE CROCHET APPLIQUE PATTERN.

Step 1: The stem: CH 33 (or less, or more), slip stitch in the second from the hook stitch.
|
Step 2: leaf: SC, DC 7, SC, slip stitch.
|
|
|
Step 3: The stem: slip stitches all along till the end of the chain.
|
CH 33 for the second stem and repeat Steps 2-3 as many times as you need.

|
Seweed crochet applique is ready! (I made 3 stems).
