Abbreviations and stitches used in Striped Crochet Handbag Pattern:

CH - chain, SC - single crochet, HDC - half double crochet, DC - double crochet, TC - treble crochet.

The gauge: 13 SC in 4'' (10 cm); 14 rows in 4'' (10 cm).

Note: 2 types of abbreviations used in the Crochet handbag Pattern:

SC 2 (the # of stitches is AFTER the stitch's abbreviation) means: make two single crochet stitches in two stitches of the previous row.

2SC (the # of stitches is BEFORE the stitch's abbreviation) means: make two single crochet stitches in one stitch (increase).

For example, [SC 2, 2SC] means: make a SC in the first stitch, then another SC in the second stitch, and then make 2 SC together in the third stitch (an increase).

The white top of the crochet bag.

Two half-circles joined together: this is the bottom of the crochet handbag.

Attach the white yarn as shown: Row #1: SC stitches all around. It may look not very neat but you will cover that seam later with the ribbon and a bow.

Rows ## 2-14: SC in each SC for 13 more rows.(Do not make a CH 1 in the beginning of the row and do not make a slip stitch at the end of the row - attach a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the row and work in rounds).
Make a slip stitch at the end of the last row.

Row #15: CH 3 and make a row of TC stitches.

Make a slip stitch at the end of this row.
(Row #15)

Row #16: CH 1, SC in each stitch, slip stitch at the end of the row.

Row #17: Slip stitches all around the row.

This is how the crochet bag looks now :)

THE RIBBON.

Make a chain 50 in (127 cm) long (approximately 160 chain stitches).

SC in the second stitch from the hook, SC in every stitch along the row. This is the white strip.

Attach the pink yarn, CH 1 and SC in each stitch all AROUND the white strip.

In the corners make 2 SC in each of 4 corner stitches, creating a nice rounding.

This is the ready ribbon.

Place the ribbon on the edge between the striped and the white parts of the crochet bag covering the edge and sew the ribbon on. Leave the ends of the ribbon for the bow.

Tie the bow as shown.

THE HANDLES.

Pink yarn: CH 6, join in a ring with a slip stitch. SC in each stitch (no CH 1 in the beginning of the row and no slip stitch at the end of the row, work in rounds). Make a tube 54 in (137 cm) long.
How to assemble the handles: insert them between the TC stitches of Row #15 of the white part of the bag as shown in the pictures.

Sew the ends of the handle (tube) together working around the tube, the seam will be almost invisible.

The crochet handbag is ready! :) Here are more pictures of the bag to give better idea on how should the handles look.
